Background
My name is Dr. Erin Peterson and I have been an educator for the past 18 years in elementary and higher education. Growing up in a family of educators, I recognized the value of a quality education and chose to pursue teaching as well. I graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a minor in mathematics. Upon graduation I taught fourth grade, while also completing my Master’s degree through a first year teacher/mentoring program. I then taught eight years in fifth grade before receiving my PhD in Education, with an emphasis in literacy. When my daughter Everly was born and diagnosed with a rare and complex syndrome, I resigned from my full time teaching job to stay home and care for her. I was also able to work as an adjunct faculty member at The University of North Dakota, teaching courses in the Education department, which is work I continue to do. I have a true passion for education and have loved every role I have played in the past 18 years.
My experience with Everly has opened a whole new world of education, allowing myself to think beyond the walls of a classroom. I have realized the opportunity to educate is everywhere! My most recent work is a children’s book titled, “When the Going Gets Tough” which will be coming out later this year. I am so proud of the book as it combines the two things I have realized I am very passionate about in the area of education: literacy and social emotional learning. I believe in teaching to the whole child and this section of my website will be about that!
About the Educator Tab
I have chosen to dedicate the Educator drop down items to my work as a teacher and mental health advocate. I plan to include resources related to literacy and social emotional learning here, along with anonymous sticky notes from adults and children related to various educational topics. This section of my website is applicable to anyone wanting to incorporate these topics into their work and time with children! The intended audience includes, but is not limited to, educators, pre-service teachers, school staff, therapists, counselors, medical professionals, child-life specialists, daycare providers, social workers, and families.
Please make sure to check the “Educator” drop down menu at the top of the website for more information:
- Educator Resources
- Post It Notes
- Social Emotional Learning Space
