Introduction:
My name is Dr. Erin Peterson and I have been an educator for the past 18 years in elementary and higher education. Growing up in a family of educators, I recognized the value of a quality education and chose to pursue teaching as well. I graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a minor in mathematics. Upon graduation I taught fourth grade, while also completing my Master’s degree through a first year teacher/mentoring program. I then taught eight years in fifth grade before receiving my PhD in Education, with an emphasis in literacy. When my daughter Everly was born and diagnosed with a rare and complex syndrome, I resigned from my full time teaching job to stay home and care for her. I was also able to work as an adjunct faculty member at The University of North Dakota, teaching courses in the Education department, which is work I continue to do. I have a true passion for education and have loved every role I have played in the past 18 years.
My experience with Everly has opened a whole new world of education, allowing myself to think beyond the walls of a classroom. I have realized the opportunity to educate is everywhere! My most recent work is a children’s book titled, “When the Going Gets Tough.” which will be coming out later this year. I am so proud of the book as it combines the two things I have realized I am very passionate about in the area of education: literacy and social emotional learning. I believe in teaching to the whole child and this section of my website will be about that!

“Dr. Erin Peterson has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in education at the University of North Dakota for 14 years. Teaching alongside her as a 5th grade teacher and again in our elementary methods courses at UND, I have had opportunities to not only work with her but learn from her myself. Dr. Peterson has always simultaneously exemplified the roles of professor, teacher, mentor, and model of what a great teacher looks like. Students always appreciate her real-life stories from being an elementary school teacher and mom as well as her constant and calm demeanor. Pre-service and in-service teachers alike are able to take the content and pedagogy learned from her classes and immediately apply these skills to their own classrooms. Dr. Peterson’s passion for teaching in any realm is evident by those with whom she has interacted with! “

“Erin was so great. I really liked that she had posters on the wall for us to follow along with and remember the major points as we went through it and practiced it all in order. I also really liked how open and honest she was with us. She definitely removed any uneasiness there would’ve been with a more hands on exam.”
