Introduction:
My name is Dr. Erin Peterson. I have been an educator for the past 18 years in elementary and higher education and my doctoral focus was in reading. With each educational and life experience that has occurred, my desire to one day write a children’s book became stronger. I am the proud author of When the Going Gets Tough! It has been such a wonderful experience to write this children’s book and I am so excited to share it with the world soon!

Testimonials:
In a world where our future teachers need to be prepared for much more than teaching content to their students, this book provides the necessary tools, strategies, and conversation starters to support students from all backgrounds. Everything from relatable characters to real-life scenarios to questions that will get students thinking and talking makes this book a “must read” for students and teachers in today’s classrooms.
~ Dr. Sonja Brandt, Professor of Higher Education (Teaching and Learning)
As both a parent and an educator, fostering emotional intelligence in children and teachers is critical. ‘When the Going Gets Tough’ is a true gem—it equips children (and their teachers) with practical strategies to navigate complex emotions and find their happiness. This beautifully written and illustrated book not only captured my children’s imaginations, but also sparked meaningful conversations about handling difficult emotions. A must-have for every home and classroom library!
~ Dr. Brittany Hagen, Professor of Higher Education (Teacher Education)
You learn so much about students and their reading skills through professor Peterson’s course. Reading is a skill all students have to learn and this class and professor does a great job of of preparing us to teach reading to kids!
