I love a good party with all the things.… a theme, food, wine, music, good company, etc… My mother in law, Sheri, is known for her canned salsa that we all indulge in throughout the year ….. jar by jar by jar! We grow the tomatoes and she makes the salsa. With all the salsa she distributes to us all, it has become quite the task. My sister in law, Colby, had the idea of hosting a salsa making party to help with this yearly duty. This will be our third year getting together to make salsa, and it is truly time cherished. Each year we have made it a bigger and better party, something we all look forward to:
Year One: The first year we each brought some of the salsa making ingredients, a bottle of wine, and some snacks. We really enjoyed our time together making this salsa. It didn’t even seem like a task, instead a form of entertainment with friends and family! And the cherry on top was that we had jars upon jars of salsa to take home and enjoy. By the end of that day, we already had plans on how to heighten this experience the following year!
Year Two: This year, we increased our guest list, ordered personalized salsa aprons, brought more wine, and added charcuterie boards! We again enjoyed our time making salsa over great music and conversation! In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we added an additional day to can soup and specialized salsa with our extra tomatoes!
I didn’t think I could enjoy “Sheri’s Salsa” anymore than I already did! However, I have found that each time I open that can of salsa to enjoy with others, I think back to that fun day with family and friends, and find myself enjoying the salsa just a little bit more! This idea of canning salsa has gone from a huge task by one or two, to a fun party tradition! Luckily I have a really cool family who also loves a good party! I am excited to see what next year’s salsa making tradition will entail!
I also enjoy including hand written recipes in our home that are a part of our family traditions. Not only do they provide some really fun decor in our kitchen, but they are a special reminder of our time together! Below is the original copy of the salsa recipe, handwritten by Sheri . On the left is a print I had made from that original copy and it now hangs in my kitchen. The right hand side is a picture of a plate I had my mother-in-law write her recipe on, another fun keepsake that is displayed in by sister-in-laws house!
I will always cherish time well spent with family and friends. Anytime I can help to make it into party with all the things, it is even that much better! Stay tuned for another fun family traditions, centered around one of my very favorite holiday treats!
